Changing the Radiation Safety Management Landscape with Odyssey Professional

Picture this: You are a professional, small business owner in the healthcare sector. Maybe you run a small animal veterinary hospital with a portable x-ray machine or manage a successful dentist office that just installed a brand new panoramic dental x-ray unit. Perhaps you are a health or medical physicist with a growing physics company and an increasing inventory of equipment that travels with you from site to site.

It can be overwhelming to think about, especially if radiation safety is not the core focus of your business, but the presence of radiation-producing machines and/or radioactive material in your facility means adhering to regulatory requirements and committing to the protection of your staff. This can be a time-consuming, cumbersome task that prohibits you from focusing on your patients or customers.

Odyssey Professional, the new software subscription service from Versant Physics, is the answer you have been searching for.

Odyssey Professional is a cloud-based software suite designed for small businesses and professional practices that have small-scale radiation safety programs. It is changing the way that companies with limited resources can build their businesses while also maintaining radiation safety across the board. The software allows for the centralized management of your inventory or personnel dosimetry program from any desktop or mobile device for your entire organization, ultimately helping you to manage your business, improve performance, and maintain compliance.

How it Works

Odyssey Professional is a renewable annual subscription, payable by credit card. Simply select the module or modules you are interested in during sign-up. After sign-up, users will be emailed login instructions along with a helpful User Guide to get started. That’s it! There are no downloads, no implementation fees, no installation or wait-times. Simply follow the link in your Getting Started email, login on your web browser, and you’re ready to go!

Available Modules

Machine Management

Keeping track of inspections, documentation, and machine information can be an administrative burden most small business owners just don’t have the time for. The machine management module provides users with a way to store and track machine information and location. Each machine has a profile of identifying information including location, serial number, responsible owner, and custom information. Users can upload documents to profiles such as reports or certificates associated with individual machines, keeping all your documentation in one place. Upcoming inspections and other due dates for machines can be added to your calendar, and with the automatic reminder feature, you are sure to stay up-to-date and remain in compliance.

Equipment Catalog

If you have a growing supply of equipment or work at multiple sites and need to take your equipment with you, it is important to be able to stay on top of your increasing inventory. The equipment catalog module provides a way for users to store and track equipment information and location. Equipment is associated with a specific site within the system and can be checked in and out by users to track its precise location. Each piece of equipment has a profile of important identifying information including serial number, location, responsible owner, notes, uploaded documents, and custom information.

Personnel Dosimetry

Perhaps the most important aspect of any radiation safety program is maintaining a successful dosimetry program. Odyssey Professional’s Personnel Dosimetry Management module breaks down the data and dose information that you need to review and makes it effortless to manage. The module includes an at-a-glance dashboard that displays information relating to the dosimetry account and location. Customizable widgets allow users to visualize pre-set metrics including read activity, ALARA status of wearers, a user watch list for individuals with higher dose readings, recently added personnel and badges, and abnormal readings. The module supports both Mirion and Landauer dosimetry data, which can be used to generate ALARA or Form 5 reports from within the module.

Inventory Tracking

Users can create and maintain a database of radioactive material with the Inventory Tracking module. It provides custom master tables of isotopes and compounds, a list of inventory holdings with the capability to adjust activity and re-assign material to other users, and a detailed section for managing areas that hold radioactive material. Each location’s profile stores information such as maps, survey history, status logs, comments, radioactive material inventory, and documentation.

Forms

The forms module allows users to build electronic versions of forms used within their radiation safety programs. Forms can be created in the module’s form builder and then be filled out and saved in the data entry section for review. Once the same form has been completed more than once, it can be analyzed in analysis to identify trends in the data. PDF templates provides users with a way to configure the header and footer for organizational branding when forms are converted to PDFs.

Special Administrative Features

The goal of Odyssey Professional software is to aid small businesses’ growth by helping them manage more efficient, more effective radiation safety programs. In addition to the available modules, the software includes helpful administrative features such as a personal document library and scheduling tool, automatic alerts and email reminders for upcoming due dates, uniquely-generated RAM, machine, and equipment labels and QR codes, and electronic reporting and form creation.

A Tool in Your Toolbelt

Versant’s Residency Program Receives CAMPEP-Accreditation

We’re excited to share that Versant Medical Physics & Radiation Safety’s Residency Program is now CAMPEP-Accredited.

Under the guidance of Lee Myers, Program Director, Versant Medical Physics’ residency program will be working with affiliated clinical facilities, Anne Arundel Medical Center and Hahne Regional Cancer Center. Our intensive 2-year program offers residents an incredible opportunity to learn from our own team of experienced medical physicists, as well as the knowledgeable faculty at each clinic.

Today’s route to becoming a Board-Certified Medical Physicist is through the successful completion of a Medical Physics degree, or its equivalent, from a CAMPEP-approved university program, which is then followed by the successful completion of a CAMPEP-approved Medical Physics Residency program. Versant Medical Physics made the decision to support and sponsor our Residency in an effort to “do our part” in making sure graduating medical physics colleagues have more opportunities to become board-certified.

For more information regarding our residency program,

Dade Moeller Health Group Announces Name Change to Versant Medical Physics and Radiation Safety

KALAMAZOO, MI. (July 2016)Dade Moeller Health Group (DMHG) – a comprehensive medical physics support group – announces today that it is changing its name to Versant Medical Physics and Radiation Safety. Effective immediately, the name change reflects the company’s departure from Dade Moeller & Associates, Inc. where it previously operated as a subsidiary.

“The name Versant comes from our ability to speak, educate and consult on an array of topics,” says Marcie Ramsay, President & CEO of Versant. “With many years of experience among our skill-diverse staff, our ability to speak on wide ranging topics within the medical physics and radiation safety industries is what allows us to excel.”

Versant provides medical physics consulting including clinical radiation therapy, commissioning, regulatory and educational services. Soon it will offer specialized software for accreditation, online continuing education and training, as well as radiation safety for medical physicists and radiation oncology physicians.

“Technology is the driving force behind improvements, not only in efficiency, but also quality in many industries. As part of our commitment to improving the efficiency of work and quality of care that our clients provide, software is paramount,” says Ben Ramsay, Vice President of Technology & Finance at Versant.

“This is why we are developing software that will help not only improve how cost effective our clients can be, but also improve their ability to focus on what’s important, rather than inefficient intermediate tasks.”

Dade Moeller Health Group separated from Dade Moeller & Associates in a management buyout, leading to the creation of Versant. DMHG was originally founded in 2013 under the leadership of Bill Kennedy to meet the needs of medical clients through radiation protection, medical physics and regulatory services. Physics Services Integrated – a full service medical physics group located in Buffalo, New York – later joined DMHG to expand their service lines. Brent Murphy joined and led DMHG as President from January 2014 until September 2015.
